Which of these 16 largest gaming worlds you can actually explore online and off from Red Dead Redemption to World of Warcraft! Learn about the BIGGEST of everything Monday, Wednesday, and Friday just subscribe! # 10 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt The Witcher 3 takes place in a lush and detail-rich world inspired by medieval Europe. The in-game world is separated into different areas but each of these feel unique and vast while maintaining continuity with the other areas. The Witcher 3 explores open plains, foggy forests, dense human settlements, and craggy archipelagos all of which stretch for miles. With an open world that translates to 84 square miles, the Witcher 3 is one of the biggest games out right now. # 9 Just Cause 2 & 3 Just Cause 2 was met with critical acclaim and a stellar 6 million sales, most of which is chalked up to its nearly photorealistic graphics and fluid gameplay. However many critics also praised the massive explorable world - the entire area of Panau, a fictional island nation. Players can spend months exploring the massive 400 square miles of the in-game map, scaling mountains and skyscrapers and even trekking through forests and caves. Its successor, Just Cause 3 keeps the same square mileage but moves onto a different region. Combined the games have 800 square miles of rich environments to discover. # 8 Red Dead Redemption Although the actual size of Red Dead Redemption’s map might not match up to the square mileage of other open world games, the Old West Frontier angle of the game makes it feel larger than it is. The acres of open wilderness combined with an endless list of quests to do let’s players wander around for hundreds of hours without the world feeling repetitive or small. # 7 Fuel Fuel is a unique post-apocalyptic, open-world racing game that has you driving through giant ruined fields, nuked forests, and the dunes of desert wastelands. The huge in game world is 5,560 square miles making it one of the absolute biggest open world games in existence. # 6 The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall Although only the second game in the Elder Scrolls series, Daggerfall remains one of the biggest open worlds ever created. Most of the world had to be procedurally generated because of the limitations of technology at the time of release, but that doesn’t make it feel any smaller. The total of 62,000 square miles for players to explore is mind bogglingly high, especially when you consider the less than 100 square mile areas of giant games like Fallout 4 or World of Warcraft. Daggerfall gets so large, a single randomly generated dungeon could possibly hold the entire maps of Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption or any other game inside of it. # 5 Star War Galaxies This epic game inspired by the equally epic movie franchise has open worlds of galactic proportions. Before the online servers were taken offline a few years back, Galaxies had a total of 12 planets for players to explore with each having about 200 square miles of area. And since it’s a Star Wars game, there is also the inclusion of open cubes of space to wage interstellar warfare in, which adds 12 cubes of 120,000 cubic feet into the game. # 4 Guild Wars: Nightfall Nightfall is a standalone expansion for the MMO Guild Wars. The in game world is inspired by African and Arabian cultures and creates a huge open-world for its players. The game is 15,000 square miles, bigger than some small countries! In Nightfall this giant open world wasn’t just unoccupied space, it was teeming with content and features and earned the massive game critical acclaim and positive reviews. # 3 Lord of the Rings Online Any fan of the Tolkien series will want to delve into Lord of the Rings Online and explore the fantastical land of Middle Earth. Players can relive familiar landscapes that their favorite characters did while creating their own narrative and shaping their own path. The enormous landscape of the in-game Middle Earth translates to about 30,000 square miles for you and your hobbit friends to play in. # 2 Xenoblade Chronicles This Nintendo published game has a surprisingly massive world for players to hack and slash their way through. Xenoblade Chronicles takes place in two separate bodies: one dominated by natural forces and one by mechanical, high tech forces. Both of the worlds are extreme opposites, but provide an interesting and expansive open world to explore. In total the in game map is 70,000 square miles, one of the biggest non-procedurally generated games in existence. # 1 No Man’s Sky This game is not set to be released for a few more weeks but it promises to have the biggest in-game universe of all time. No Man’s Sky is a space exploration game that puts Halo and Mass Effect to shame. The universe players can explore in No Man’s sky includes 2 to the 64th power planets. So many planets that the games developer Hello Games told IGN it would take a whopping five billion years to fully explore all of the in-game planets.
