  1. As an answer to a repeating comment: If the RAMPS failure is hardware (MOSFET burnt, adc_input fried...) there is nothing on the RAMPS or Marlin that can protect you, the temperature will keep rising well above the ignition temperature of your plastic of choice. In my design the second thermistor will be connected to a separate Arduino that will be dedicated to check the temperature (and probably the rest of the safeties that I'll add in the future) so there are two completely independent systems that would need to fail at the same time for the disaster to happen.
  2. Ivan, current firmwares for RAMPS+Arduino have protect code for this situation!
  3. marlin won't do that it will detect temp fault and shut down printer turn on the protection in marlin
  4. honestly your way of justifying two thermistor just doesnt make sense. the thermal runaway feature of marlin is more than enough and a fuse alone would probably work. Not to mention if the cable was somehow cut/snagged both of them might be affected as they are both of them are bundled together
  5. Hi ivan, I am going to build my own 3D printer with a prusa i3 style frame using only lead screws to move the axis. I hav a question fore you, why didn't you go with the i3 design and went with a older model?

    My print record in one piece is 185 hours, I would have slept more surely :-)
  7. Another great video. I hope Mike gets better soon. 😜 I am a bit curious on this safety system You have going on. What happens if Gary gets sick, hopefully not a stroke like Mike. Does the heat block heat up or does it stay cold? Or do you have to call their wives for help? 🙄 I hope you might consider doing a separate video just on your safety system. Learning a bunch from you and thanks for sharing this build with us!!!!

  9. Hello Mr. Ivan. I really enjoy watching this series. Now I have a question, not a criticism. Just a question. You bent the heater wires to make room for the heat sink, could you have made a groove in the fins of the heat sink so the wires could be straightened up after mounting? Just for aesthetic reasons.

  14. Ivan, you are the first person I have seen install a separate hardware overtemp safety circuit and I am glad to see it. I work on high temp annealing ovens and everyone has a circuit like this. A lot of the time we use the same TC but feed into two circuits, one control and one safety relay. I am not sure if you could do the same with these thermometers? Great job, I would hope others would follow your lead.

  20. Hi Ivan,
    I think you have a very good point here, but why do you use just one hole for both thermistors?
    If for whatever reason the screw fails, both thermistors are not hold in place. This actually happened to me with my HyperCube printer, so this is a real scenario.
    I would suggest drilling a second hole for both the thermistor and the screw.
