1997 World Series, Game 7: Indians @ Marlins

Cleveland Indians 2 at Florida Marlins 3, F/11 -- At first, the 1997 World Series between the powerful Cleveland Indians and the upstart Marlins seemed as if it would be memorable only because it marked the first time a wild-card team made it to the big dance. But as Florida's Craig Counsell touched home plate to end only the third extra-inning Game 7 in Major League history, it became clear that the two teams had played in a modern classic that was as memorable as any of the great Series-ending contests in Octobers past as Florida completed an unexpected comeback to win the franchise's first World Championship.

  1. Fuckin' Mesa
  2. Damn Marlins destroyed the souls of 2 long suffering fanbases. Tribe here in '97 and the Cubs in '03. Gotta give the marlins credit though
  3. Jaret Wright was two outs from DWARFING Johnny Podres as the most unlikely game clinching pitcher in baseball history. He had ONE decent full year (2004). Otherwise, he was a below average pitcher with an ERA over 5 for his career. But on this night, he was spectacular. And Jose Mesa blew it.
  4. i don't think council ever touches the plate..from the video it seems like he jumps right over
  5. Back when the marlins had Fans
  6. When was the last time you saw a white guy (Zaun) pinch run for a black guy (Johnson)? Lol XD
  7. My tribe was magical this year. It's sad that they couldn't pull off a win. But it made the Cavs title that much sweeter!
  8. Fernandez could've tagged the runner and thrown to first, and that 11th inning would've been over. Instead, he guns the guy at home and gives Renteria a chance.
  9. 3:34:34 How close that was to being caught.
  10. - 19 years after this heartbreaking Game 7 World Series loss...the Indians lose another Game 7 gut-wrencher in 2016.....
  11. This is one of the best baseball intros ever made along with WS 2005 Game 4 and WS 2016 Game 7
  12. Their payroll was the lowest and they still did that fire sale. This is one of the reasons they struggle in attendence because its hard to trust ownership.
  13. edgar renteria! one of the greatest hits in baseball history. The celebration is one that all players dream of! Marlins 1997 world series champions
  14. got to suck to be a indians fan loss 3 game 7 extra inning game, #FlyTheW
  15. My beloved baseball team Florida Marlins. The 2003 world series against the New York Yankees had a venezuelan style with Alex Gonzalez playing in third base, Miguel Cabrera in the outfields, and Ozzie Guillen doing his job as a coach of the third base.
  16. I remember that Bonilla homer in the 7th to bring Marlins to within a run. Biggest moment because they were having a bitch of a time getting a run. All they had to do was manufacture one after that and they did.
  17. Well, this isn't the biggest collapse in a playoff series for the Indians anymore.
  18. ,lets not get to cocky it now over yet
  19. It's sad how the year after 1997, the Marlins had their worst record in their franchise history while the Yankees made a historic year.
