A 124 Pound Blue Catfish It was May 2005 when a man named Tim Pruitt from Alton, Illinois was fishing on the Mississippi River and walked away with a 124-pound blue catfish. With a diameter of 44 inches and a length of 58 inches, the catfish took almost an hour to rip out of the water. The good news is that the fish was taken to a tank to live for the rest of his life instead of being killed and eaten. 9. A 140 Pound Siamese Carp In August 2014, a man named Andy Harman was victorious in reeling in this monster-sized Siamese carp during his vacation in Thailand while he was staying a fishing resort. It took Mr. Harman almost an hour before he finally came out on top and took this photo as proof of his monumental win. Poor fish. He looks so...well dead. 8. A 266 Pound Catfish Why are catfish getting so huge? Like, honestly, what are people feeding these things? This is exactly why you don’t feed wildlife because they grow up to be mutated freaks of nature. Even though this isn’t the prettiest fish to look at, you can’t help but feel sorry for it. Yeah, let’s not catch marine life for pure sport and stop disturbing their ecosystems. 7. A 279 Pound Catfish This 279-pound catfish was plucked out of the Po delta of Italy and is said to be the biggest one ever caught in the area. Just look at this thing. It could swallow like 8 tiny humans in one gulp. How is it even remotely possible for a fish to grow to such an immense physical stature? 6. A 428 Pound Halibut This huge halibut was caught back in August of 2013 by a man named Christian Johannsen after spending 5 grueling hours trying to reel it in. The 19 foot long fish required three adult men to hoist it up onto the boat. The fish ended up being so big that is was able to produce around 400 fillets. 5. A Wels Catfish So, apparently, this giant sea monster was captured in the waters of the Acarlar Floodplain Forest that is located in Northwestern Turkey. Even though this does look like a sea monster, this is actually a species of giant catfish, the Wels catfish to be precise. These types of catfish can grow up to be around 16 feet in length and weigh a surprising 600 pounds. 4. A 643 Pound Mekong Catfish This Mekong Catfish was caught in the region of Chiang Khong in northern Thailand back in May of 2005. It ended up weighing an unbelievable 643 pounds and is one of the largest ever captured. The Mekong River is home to many large species of fish such as the Mekong and the giant stingray. Both of those populations of fish and many others are in decline. 3. A 770 Pound Stingray The man that you see in the following photo is a British fisherman named Ian Welch, who managed to catch this humongous stingray. It was back in 2009 that Welch came across the aquatic beast while out on the freshwaters of Thailand. After more than an hour and a half, he finally caught it and its foot-long barb located on its tail that is quite deadly. 2. An almost 800 Pound Stingray The giant stingray was caught by an American TV nature conservationist by the name of Jeff Corwin along with some help that he had from some UK-based fishing guides. It took two whole hours to catch it so that it could be properly sized up as it’s too big for a traditional scale. The fishy native of the Mekong River ended up weighing almost 800 pounds. 1. A 1,320 Pound Marlin It was back in March of 2013 that a man named Kevin Gardner ended up snagging this enormous marlin just near the coast of the Ascension Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The 19 foot long fish took an astonishing 3 hours to catch and weighed an incredible 1,320 pounds. That marlin happens to be the fourth biggest fish to ever be caught in the entire world.
