2017 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Review

The Toyota 4Runner lineup is a little more confusing with the introduction of the TRD Off-Road. That's not to be confused with the TRD Pro - which is the meaty off-road version of the SUV. Huh? TRD Pro? TRD Off-Road? It's all a bit confusing, so let's take a look at the differences. Watch the video for more.

  1. Great truck!!! I have two 4-runners now 4th and 5th generation '04 and '11!!! Looking to add 2018 Tundra crewmax sr5 Trd off-road to collection!!! Toyota's are most reliable!!!
  2. TRD stands for Tremendously Reliable and Durable
  3. I love toyota 4runner
  4. Personally I don't mind the badging, maybe once I see it in person I guess but the thing that really annoys me is the cheap feeling interior. All the flimsy glossy plastic really makes me want something else. On a positive note, LOVE the rims and the off road package!
  5. There's nothing confusing about Toyota going from "Trail" to "TRD Off-road".  It better aligns with the Tundra and Tacoma packages.  How disappointing to use footage of a 2016 4runner "Trail" when you are supposed to be "reviewing" a 2017 4runner with the TRD off-road package.  Too cheap to shoot new video I guess.  This review sucks.  This channel sucks.  Back to TFL I go!!
  6. cars.com videos suck. host seem boring and videos are too short. step up your game. even independent users have better reviews without the name recognition and resources cars.com should have.
  7. I've heard hood scoop helps in off-road situations.
  8. Toyota has always had odd badge placement. So the badge placement is okay to me.
  9. Cool.
  10. Worst review ever honestly.
  11. I like this version. Re-naming "TRD Off-Road" from "Trail" isn't confusing, it matches the trim levels Toyota offers on the Tundra/Tacoma. I didn't like the badges on the side at first, but now I don't mind them or the headrests and the shift knob/darker metallic interior trim is a very nice upgrade over SR5 models. Toyota has great off-road heritage with TRD and the Baja 1000, I don't think it is over the top. You get a lot of the off-road features on this model without the extremely aggressive TRD Pro front end design for only a little more than an base SR5 model. The option package really is a great value, especially considering that most dealers won't negotiate below MSRP on the TRD Pro models...
  12. Renaming it the TRD off-road is to keep it in line with the trims on the Tacoma and tundra
  13. What about Kdss? This is the reason to buy the Offroad (Trail).
  14. 'off-road' w/on-road tires...makes sense to me...sad this is mostly a badge/emblem pkg w/o much substance underneath...so are there lots of 4runner owners demanding crawl-control? why can't it be offered w/o the turd emblems...still overpriced too as are all trucks/suvs
  15. That's the ugliest color they sell.
