41 Pound Catfish Caught in Texas

What was supposed to be a father and son bass fishing trip at Lake Brownwood turned into 45-minute fight to pull in a massive catfish. Russell Hair, 26, of Early, caught a 41-pound, 46.25-inch catfish on Monday while fishing was his son, 4-year-old Cayson. It set the record for the largest flathead catfish caught using a rod-and-reel line at Lake Brownwood. Hair said he was near the Jim Ned Creek Bridge when something that felt like a log started pulling his line. “When I saw it was moving to the other side of the boat, I knew it was something big,” Hair said. “I told my son to get the net, but it was too big for that.” When the fish reached the surface, he grabbed it by the lip and bear hugged it until it stopped flapping. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the previous record-holder for the biggest flathead catfish caught using a rod-and-reel was during February 2010. That catfish weighed 31 pounds and measured 39 inches. "Pictures don't do it any justice," Hair said. "I drive a Ford Ranger -- the fish literally took the whole tailgate from end to end." Hair said he’s working with the local game warden to get his catch properly updated on the TPWD’s website. The biggest catfish ever caught at Lake Brownwood was 58 pounds and measured 49.50 inches. That catch was in 2010 using a trotline. References: http://www.ktxs.com/news/early-man-catches-41pound-catfish-at-lake-brownwood/38911832

  1. Man, if I saw something almost 4' long with an 8" mouth coming in the boat with me, I'd be jumping out on the other side lol! That's one ugly mug [the fish, I mean].
  2. I think it is because the Fish aren't able to defend themselves. Nibiru is on its way in snd the dish are effevted! But not the carnivores,, So the non carno pores are dying off. But not the non carno voices , they will die of starvation after the have ate as much human flesh as possible o
