Number Five: Barack Obama's Birthplace Obama has responded to claims that he is not American by birth, and therefore not able to be President of the United States, by publishing his birth certificate.The fringe theorists maintain that it is not authentic however and that in fact, Obama was born in Kenya. This all began in 2008 and even today, 61% of supporters of Donald Trump believe Obama to be lying about his place of birth. Trump was a major source of the conspiracy at one point, being the person who would run to take over Obama's place. The theorists - also called birthers - have even tried to prove in court that Obama shouldn't be in the position he is but they haven't got very far. Obama maintains that he was born in Hawaii, although he's happy to have a little pun about the whole thing, playing the opening scene from The Lion King at a dinner he gave in 2011. Number Four: Operation Snow White The FBI put a stop to this mission by the Church of Scientology in 1977 which ended up with s senior church official in jail. The purpose of the mission was to allow Scientology founder, L Ron Hubbard, and his seniors to travel freely around the Western world, and they were to do this by taking all of the files the government held about their religion and exposing them as false. Number Three: Reptilian Overlords If the results of a survey are anything to go by, one in 25 people actually believe that lizard people are controlling the world. Seriously. They think that aliens mixed into the world's governments thousands of years ago. There are videos showing people with snake eyes which apparently are proof of this conspiracy theory. Number Two: Operation Northwoods In 'A Pretext for War' James Bamford outlines the CIA plans for fake terrorist attacks around America. Why would they attack their own country? So they could blame it on Cuba and begin a war. This all happened in 1962 and the idea was to build support from the public to go to war. Ultimately they wanted to remove Fidel Castro from his leading position. The plans included destroying sea vessels, taking airplanes, killing immigrants and stopping refugees by sinking the boats they were travelling in. The military voted the plans in, but they were stopped by the public leaders and not spoken of again for over 30 years. Number One: The 9/11 Terrorist Attacks There are all sorts of conspiracy theories surrounding these devastating terrorist attacks in which al-Qaeda took control of 4 planes which were flying over the USA and deliberately crashed two of them into the World Trade Centre buildings. Nearly 3000 people were killed in the attacks. There has been speculation over whether it was an attempt by the Trade Centre owners to claim the insurance - they would have been recompensed with half a billion dollars.
