5 Biggest Engines Ever Built!

Have you ever wondered what's the biggest engine in the world? Well, you see when we hear about a car having a 5 or 6-litre engine we see that as huge. But when it comes to other vehicles, 5 or 6 litres is considered tiny. In fact, compared to the biggest, it's microscopic. So in this list I'll be showing you the 5 largest engines ever built. ------------------------------------------------------- Vlog Channel: http://www.youtube.com/more5 SnapChat: SamAll5YT Twitter: https://twitter.com/OfficialAll5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sam_all5 Website: http://www.All5.me ------------------------------------------------------- 5) Largest Car Engine Of All Time All things considered, a car is a small vehicle. Therefore their engines are usually going to be quite small but very efficient. A 2-litre engine, for example, is usually more than enough for most people on their daily commute. However all the way back in 1910, Fiat built a monster of an engine for their car. The engine was a whopping 28.3 litres. Considering most modern day supercars rarely exceed 6 litres, 28.3 sounds ridiculous. And it was, it made the vehicle extremely big, heavy and inefficient. However just to show you how far we have come with the internal combustion engine. Back then the 28.3-litre power plant only produced 300 horsepower. Now we can achieve that figure in a 3-litre engine with no problem. 4) Largest Locomotive Engine Locomotive engines have to be big and strong. After all they got to pull vehicles that are extremely heavy and large. The largest engine ever put into a locomotive was about 83 feet long. It produced an insane 8,500 horsepower. They were built in the 50's for Union Pacific. However although very powerful they were extremely inefficient. These engines were gas turbine electric engines and used twice as much fuel as an equally powerful diesel engine. Needless to say, they were a flop, after all keeping costs down is vital for all businesses. 3) Largest Industrial Turbine Engine This engine doesn't power a vehicle, instead, it converts steam into electricity at a French nuclear power station. It's a turbine generator and each blade weigh's 176 pounds. It can produce an insane 2,346,788 horsepower. Just take a second to absorb that figure. A Bugatti Veyron produces only about 1,000 horsepower, this thing pumps out 2,346 times the power. But the incredible thing is, it's not even the most powerful engine we've ever built. 2) Largest Rocket Engine When talking about power, nothing comes close to the Saturn V rocket. The engine itself is 18.5 feet tall, and produces, wait for it 190 million horsepower. If you want to go to the moon, you need a powerful engine, and nothing is more powerful than the Saturn V. Obviously, that figure is at full thrust which doesn't last that long. But the fact we humans have built something that incredibly powerful and only explored a tiny part of the universe shows how much further we got to go. Realistically it won't be horsepower that will ever take us into the deepest parts of space. It will be something we have yet to discover or understand. 1) Largest Marine Engine While this isn't the most powerful engine we ever made, it is by far the largest. It's a 25,480-litre turbo engine with 14 cylinders that runs on heavy fuel oils. It produces is 107,389 horsepower. It's built to power a vessel that carries valuable cargo from China to the U.S. And at the moment there are 25 of these engines sailing in our oceans. The ship itself weighs close to 171,000 tonnes. You might think how can something of this size be cost effective. Amazingly it is, despite burning 39 barrels of oil an hour and costing over $34 every minute. It's able to be very efficient for what it is, and another 86 of them are being built.
