6000 long kite flown at int'l kite festival in Chongqin, SW China

The 2014 Chongqing Wulong International Kite Festival kicked off on April 4 in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, with a 6,000-meter-long kite launched into the sky. The festival, held at Xiannu Mountain, has brought together kite delegations from 13 countries, including China, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand, as well as more than 1,000 kite enthusiasts from around the world. A kite named "Centipede with a Dragon's Head" was shown at the festival. At more than 6,000 meters long, the kite is longer than the current Guinness World Record for the longest kite, which stands at about 5,000 meters. The kite, weighing about 200 kilograms, consists of a 30-meter-long dragon's head and 2,000 body pieces marked with "Chinese Dream". Due to air traffic controls, only a 3,000 meter long part of the kite could be flown. "We have the most participating countries at this festival... ++JUMP CUT++ ...as well as the world's longest kite, measuring more than 6,000 meters in length, flying over Xiannu Mountain," said Chen Daye, official from the Wulong Kasite Tourism Group, the organizing company of the kite festival. Kite enthusiasts from around the world have also been enjoying flying kites at the picturesque festival venue. "I think it's great to be able to fly kites at such a beautiful place," said a amateur kite flier from the United Kingdom. The kite festival will run until Monday.
