AFSPA is immunity turned impunity; follow Tripura's example: Chidambaram to NDTV

Act is "one of the biggest irritants" in the minds of an average Kashmiri, former Home Minister P Chidambaram told NDTV and urged J&K and other states to follow Tripura's example in revoking AFSPA. Expressing regret that he couldn't amend AFSPA in his tenure, Mr Chidambaram said that no other country in the world authorises a jawan to fire 'even to the causing of death', so why should we "sanctify in a Parliamentary legislation the causing of death?" On the long standing soldiers' demand of one rank one pension, Mr Chidambaram said that his government had delivered on OROP and couldn't be blamed for delay.
