BIG MINNEAPOLIS MOLINE 4 CYLINDER PUMPING ENGINE, BARN FRESH

Comments

  1. I have ten 800HD engines right now pumping water from 700' lift. I have 5 in the barn for future use. I bought them in the 1970's. There is a limited supply of parts. looks like before I work on one I will have few options. These are about the most fuel efficient gas engines ever made by measuring with a strain gauge on the shaft and a gas meter. If setup right the thermal efficiency is 25%. More efficient than than a G3406 Cat. because of the limited bearing friction with only 4 mains on the 6 cylinder and 10.5:1compression. The limiting factor is the need for low rpm also using cool air from an after cooler if turbo-ed.
  2. That's a nice engine! Treat her with love.
  3. What was this one used for? Any history?
  4. I worked for Minneapolis-Moline from 1980 to 84 at the Russellville ar. plant where we machined the castings and forgings into parts and built the turbo 800 cu. in. and 504 cu. in. propane or natural gas engines. They were assembled and tested before being shipped to various customers.Everyone would listen when an engine would fire up and the test cell operator put a load on it to simulate it working, you could feel the vibration in your chest as it pulled the rpms down. The engines we built were used for irrigation pumps mainly but also i believe in the oil fields. There was also a 336 cu.in.4 cyl. and a v-12 model of which we never made either, but had one of each that was used.
  5. M&M made the best propane engines in the world. the only company that their propane engines put out more hp and torque per cube than their gasoline or diesel models and they had the longest engine life. they made a 6cyl 800 cu in irrigation engine you could mount the crankshaft cylinder blocks and heads etc in a g1000lp vista frame in place of the 505cuin factory setup for a quick hp upgrade.. the above engine looks like the old G tractor engine. in a tractor dont have your feet under the oil pan if you remove the head bolts
  6. I'd like to see this engine put back to work, running on natural gas and pumping irrigation water...
  7. That's a beast.  Gotta like Minneapolis Molines.
  8. Nothing like a big beast with lots a grunt....Minnies were awesome!
  9. Purrs like a kitten!
  10. i cant quite tell, is it gas or diesel? nice engine!
  11. I know your proud to have found that. Very nice.
