By now, the 2014 GM Ignition Recall is already firmly in the rear view mirror. That’s mainly because 2015 gave us plenty of new scandals, rumors, vehicle debuts and mind-blowing business moves to make this year fly by like a hellcat on a dragstrip. So let’s take a look back at all those big automotive headlines that filled up our news feeds in 2015. 4WheelOnline Intro Two of the biggest automotive reveals for 4x4s actually came outside of the Big 3 this year. First, Nissan and Cummins teamed up to make their Titan XD Cummins Diesel pickup. Then, Tesla Motors unveiled their long awaited Model X SUV with electric all-wheel drive. That’s not to say the Big 3 weren’t busy though. At Fiat Chrysler, Jeep gave us some of the juiciest rumors of the year. Their rumored to be working on a Jeep truck, the next-generation Wrangler is going to rock a diesel engine, and they’ll be putting the Hellcat engine in a Grand Cherokee. To balance all that horsepower and masculinity they also released the Jeep Renegade to take on the profitable CUV market. On FCA’s truck side, RAM took back the best-in-class towing title from Ford with their new 6.7 liter 900 foot pound of torque Cummins diesel. On the downside, FCA’s CEO Sergio Marchionne tried all year to push the automotive industry to merge together to consolidate costs as FCA’s profit margins fell to just 4 percent. GM on the other hand bounced back from last year’s scandals by bringing out their sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro. They rolled out a mid-cycle design refresh on their light duty Silverado and Sierra trucks too. Best of all, they put the 2.8L Duramax Diesel in their Colorado and Canyon midsize trucks to make the most fuel-efficient truck ever. Ford had some of the biggest news of all with the much anticipated return of the legendary Ford GT and Ford Raptor truck. The Blue Oval also made us all salivate for a new Mustang again with the new GT350 and it’s flat-plane crank V8. Ford also managed to have time to announce their next-generation aluminum bodied Super Duty trucks with its insanely high-strength frame. Ford also pushed the industry one step closer to autonomous technology as they paired with Google to make self-driving cars together. There was also some bad news to hit the automotive industry in 2015 though. The VW emissions scandal dominated headlines as the public lost faith in clean-diesels and some of our favorite rides got the axe from manufacturers. Hacking car computers became a reality this year too, as Wired revealed vehicles like a Jeep Cherokee can be easily hacked using a laptop. Worst of all, companies like Ford and Dodge are slowly turning their back on the V8 and we found out that several automakers are faking the engine noises of cars to compensate for the smaller engine’s lesser grunt. Let’s not end the year on a downer though, let us know what your favorite automotive news of 2015 was in the comments below. Which carmaker do you think had the biggest year? I’m Ken with 4WheelOnline , and you’ve just been refreshed!
