From the infamous Ugandan crocodile that terrified locals, to the biggest crocodile in Australia that measures over 18 ft. These are the 16 biggest crocodiles and gators ever caught #5 … Brutus … This saltwater croc has become a local celebrity in Australia. He’s quite camera friendly and has been caught on film following tour boats in hopes of being thrown food. At over 18 feet long and weighing about a ton, Brutus first attracted attention when he jumped out of the Adelaide (ah-del-aid) River to snatch some meat tossed from a tour boat. Brutus recently made international headlines when a tourist photographed him chomping down on a bull shark. Estimated to be 80 years old, Brutus is something of a late bloomer, but he’s making up for lost time! Et tu, Brutus? #4 … Bujang Senang (boo-jang sen-ang) … This huge crocodile inhabited the waters of Borneo. Locals were convinced the creature was a maneater, claiming the animal had been feasting on humans for up to 30 years. They also claimed the creature was as long as 25 feet. After the creature was captured and killed in 1992, the actual dimensions were recorded: The croc officially weighed in at more than a ton and measured over 19 feet. FYI, the name “Bujang Senang” translates to “Happy Bachelor”. Make your own joke. #3 .. Lolong (low-long) … This Indo-Pacific saltwater croc weighed over 2300 pounds and measured over 20 feet long. That size earned him the title of “world's biggest crocodile in captivity” from the Guinness Book of World Records. He was captured in the Philippines after being hunted for over three weeks in 2011. But he didn’t go without a fight: it took around 100 people to pull him to land and finally secure him. Lolong died in captivity in 2013, believed to have been 52 years old. #2 … Yai …This is actually a hybrid Siamese-saltwater crocodile weighing well over a ton. Born in 1972, he measures over 18 feet and is still growing! He makes his home at the Samut Prakan (same-utt prickin’) Crocodile Farm & Zoo in Thailand. There’s been some dispute as to whether or not Yai is actually the largest croc in captivity, not Cassius. For now though, the title goes to Cassius #1 Cassius …, this beast holds the Guinness World Record for largest crocodile living in captivity. At nearly 18 feet long and weighing over a ton, it’s no wonder why! Caught in Australia’s Northern Territory in 1987, Cassius is also the largest croc ever caught alive in Oz. He now makes his home at Marineland Melanesia … an Australian wildlife zoo, that features over 50 crocs of all ages. Almost 100 years old, Cassius definitely has seniority! FYI Cassius was named for Cassius Clay, better known as Muhammad Ali.
