  18. The DD40AX "Centennial " is by far my personal favorite. Whom ever coined the phrase " size matters ", must of been referring to this locomotive. At nearly 100 feet long, she is indeed very large and quite heavy. I really love the look of this locomotive. Especially the front. I model in O gauge and my personal favorite is my Union Pacific DD40AX #6900. Even in scale, this locomotive is very large.

UP has always been innovative, when it comes to manufacturing locomotives and the double D is no exception. Putting two locomotives together was actually a brilliant idea. Though very long, she is very powerful and quite capable of handling extremely long heavy consist. Snaking her way through the Mojave desert, this locomotive gets rail enthusiasts, like myself, very excited. Even by today's standards with tier 3&4 green locomotives, like the ES44AC and the SD90, the DD40AX can still hold her own. Which is quite remarkable considering that these locomotives were manufactured in the late 60's and early 70's. I suspect, one day, UP will put two SD90'S together and create one of the most powerful modern locomotives on the planet.

Really beautiful locomotive. Only the Big Boy, is equal, in terms of overall appeal.🚉
