5. People saying that lax hits are small aren't wrong - lacrosse is centered around stick skill rather than hitting. The defensive objective of the game in football for instance, is to put a runner on the ground. In lacrosse, the objective is to take the player's ball out of their stick. Sure, anybody can deal out hits in lacrosse, and it's perfectly legal. However, good lacrosse players can see many more efficient alternative methods to achieve that goal without risking being beaten. Also, in football, there's only one player who, once he passes the line of scrimmage, isn't allowed to pass the ball. Therefore, it's everybody's goal to go after that one player, so therefore big hits are encouraged, because there's always a guy behind you to clean up when you miss. In lacrosse, the risk is higher - if you miss a truck on a kid, he keeps the ball, and your defense is now a man down until you can recover. This will usually result in a goal from the other team.
