Just to clear up any confusion, this is not the great horned owl, it's the Eurasian eagle owl, and it is, in fact, the worlds largest owl. Although it looks similar, It is not a GWO

You underestimate the birds. They may be fragile but some birds especially birds of prey and nut eating birds can bite as hard as a decent sized dog. Combine that with sharp beaks or serrated beaks and yeah some birds could bite a finger off, just not clean off they aren't chainsaws.
In this case the bird wouldn't be able to do it, eagle owls have perticularly weak bites for their size and compared to an eagle or even some parrots.
Doubt that it could take his finger off, I want to see that though.
