Bob Beamon vs Mike Powell Long Jump World Records!

This is a side by side comparison of the world record jumps from Bob Beamon and Mike Powell. They footage is from different camera angles, but it is cool to see the difference between the two jumps. Namely, the short-long takeoff from Beamon and the long-short penultimate from Powell. Beamon's high jumpesque approach creates superior height, but a more pronounced loss of speed and may have contributed to his lack of any other 28' jumps in his life, whereas Powell's approach generates more speed at takeoff but sacrifices height. Anyway, an interesting look at the past two world records in the men's long jump that have survived a combined 42 years! The footage is completed with the final three jumps for Carl Lewis and Mike Powell at the 1991 world champs. Enjoy!

  1. Someone left Radio 1 on whilst making this video.
  2. These are performances for the ages. As a former decathlete during the early Lewis era I have to wonder why, in the last 45 years have only these men, along with Larry Myricks, even approached this level? I don't think it's doping. Too many out there are doing that. I also have to wonder why most of the field event records from the late 80s/early 90s are still intact.
  3. +Ceddy Nash  Thanks ceddy for recommending me that program bro!
'cause it showed me beyond what I expected! In a short weeks in
time, I gained 5" vert and now, im quicker and jump higher than
the other team members on my team. Its definitely working! This
    is an awesome program!
  4. I thought that was a very rude comment by that commentator. Bob Beamon still holds the Olympic record.!!!!
  5. I loved Bob Beamans techniqe the best. When he jumped you can tell right away where they were gonna spot the jump. You can see where his feet hit. Hist butt does not hit the ground. The other ones always hit their butts in the ground. I never can tell where jump will be spotted.
  6. Internet nonsense.
  7. Does anyone know which was the maxmimum HEIGHT reached by Bob Beamon's jump? I heard somewhere that it was above the high-jump world record by that time.
  8. incred! not even carl lewis nor beamon would 'dislike' such action!
  9. Carl Lewis was a doper. Sorry, if these guys did it naturally it would have been commendable. But subverting laws to attain these "milestones" is rubbish.
  10. "Beamon's figure has disappeared off the record books FOREVER" lol sad
  11. I believe that Lewis was the best of the three but always held back in lesser meets where he could have should have set the record. He was the most consistent - ten years unbeaten. I heard Mike Powell talk about this event and he still called him King Carl - the way he would walk about and act. Powell handed it to him here. The Beamon jump was off the charts. The three best in the business.
  12. All of these gentlemen are Superhuman!
  13. I hate the damn camera angles they use in the jumps. If they would fucking keep the camera still and zoomed out at the end (for the entire jump part) you could really see how much distance they cover. When they follow him through the air it makes it look like they jump way less distance. With a good camera angle it would be visually stunning.
  14. @jimmyred1978 Beaman set his record at altitude though, remember. Mike Powell's PB at altitude is 8:99............................It only isn't the world record, because of a very marginal 2.2 metre wind
  15. I remember when they talked to bob beamon after mike powell broke his record. Beamon said that after he learned his record had been broken he woke up that next day feeling naked. lol! But Beamon's jump and the marjin that the broke the record by will always be the GOAT.
  16. Brilliant! Powel was slightly faster here i believe and it shows as he landed slightly earlier. Both got amazing vertical lift.
