Branko Petrovich sets underwater breath hold record in Dubai, UAE

Free diving champion from Serbia, Branko Petrovic, recently set a new World Record in Static Apnea, or also known as the longest breath hold under water on a single breath of air. The previous freediving world record was set in 2009 by Stephane Mifsude in France with a time of 11 minutes and 35 seconds. Branko Petrovic took part in the stunt during his stay in Dubai and he showcased his skill at an extreme sports expo taking place in Dubai, UAE, setting the brand new world record at an impressive 11 minutes and 54 seconds. It took several attempts of the stunt by Petrovic whilst in Dubai to set the new record, and on one of the attempts in front of the large crowds at the expo he actually equalled the previous record at 11 minutes 35 seconds. “I tested the water earlier in the day and it was too hot on this occasion, so I asked them to put some ice in the water. That was my mistake. I miscalculated that and then it was too cold and I thought it best not to take too much of a risk to try and exceed an already awesome time that I had already achieved!” said Petrovic. The announcement that Branko had trained extensively for then came: “The new World Record for Static Apnea (holding your breath) is 11 minutes 54 seconds set by Branko Petrovic on October 7, under the supervision of the world record adjudicators.” The crowd burst into a round of applause and Branko Petrovic was provided with a cheque of Dh120,000 from Mohammed Abdullah Al Khayat CEO of KEMOS Group of Companies which was presented by Mohammed Abdullah Al Ghurair Board Member of Al Ghurair Group. Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, Mohammed Yusuf Executive Director of Skydive Dubai and Zarir Saifuddin owner of SPEARO Freediving Magazine were also in attendance. e: news@thisisguavo.com Video credit: Guavo Media / Newsivity Special thanks to Mo Seedat @ Newsivity and the team at the expo for their assistance. 1. I don't get it. When David Blaine set the World Record WITH the preperation of pure oxygen, the media went crazy and his attempt got famous. But a new Record was set without hyperventilating pure oxygen and noone cares.
