Brian's Top 5 Favorite Fountain Pens for Newbies

Even though it's been 5 years since I was a complete newbie in the fountain pen world, I still remember very distinctly how incredibly overwhelming all of the options seem. Here is a bullet-point style run down of my 5 favorite fountain pens for newbies: Pilot Metropolitan (1:09) Platinum Preppy (2:49) Pilot Varsity (4:58) Jinhao X750 (6:49) Lamy Safari (9:13) Shop at GouletPens Store: http://www.GouletPens.com Read GouletPens blog (Ink Nouveau): http://www.inknouveau.com Like GouletPens on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheGouletPenCompany Follow GouletPens on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GouletPens Follow GouletPens on Instagram: http://instagram.com/gouletpens Follow GouletPens on Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/gouletpens/

  1. Idk why everybody like the lamy safari.. i used it a few months everyday and then the ink started to come out on the edge where you put in the nib. My hands were full of ink and i washed out the fountain pen and i used a lamy cartridge.. so.. yeah
  2. whats a converter halp
  3. why my pilot metropolitan leaks? i m using namiki cartridges
  4. Nice video . I like it very much . It inspired me to buy the pilot varsity
  5. Can I refill the metropolitan with my own ink, like from a jar?
  6. Its funny this, i browsed through multiple forums and user reviews and everyone and their mother says that lamy FPs work without any issues with international standard cartridges. small and double sized. Better yet i have not seen a single user post saying international cartridge somehow didnt work with his lamy FP
  7. when u put something in the wish list for any site what is that for? just wanted to ask
  8. I think the faber castle loom is a good entry level pen with a awsome design and nib
  9. I have a budget of $125 for a new fountain pen... any ideas?
  10. Is the "FABER-CASTELL LOOM" a good starter pen if I don't mind spending the $40 on it?
  11. can i use parker ink in pilot metropolitan?
  12. Just got my first fountain pen; Pilot metro per your recommendation. Looking to get another....because I love pens and Lamy Safari recommended quite a bit but also heard TWSBI AL one to think about. As beginner and second pen, which would be best? Lamy Safari, TWSBI AL or even Lamy Al-Star. Thanks!
    Love your videos!!
  13. What kind of notebook is that under his pen at 10:03?
  14. Pilot Metropolitan VS Jinhao X750
  15. thanks very informative
  16. Is there a pen that is made for mainly drawing?
  17. I started with Zebra, then Pilot (Varsity and Metropolitan), then Parker (Vector and Sonnet) and now a Lamy Safari. So far I've been satisfied. But I am saving for a more solid pen (between 200 - 250 USD) which one would you recommend?
  18. I am surprised the Parker Vector did not make your list.
  19. I did a youtube search for both 'overpriced fountain pens' and 'best value fountain pens' and both searches came up with nothing. I wonder if you might want to take up the challenge on one or both. I would appreciate it! I was expecting that several people would have done some on both, but I was mistaken.
  20. Great video! My first fountain pen was a varsity, rarely used it, but thought how cool, a disposable fountain pen! and then I bought a Pilot Metropolitan, now I have two Pilot Metropolitan pens and both came with the squeeze converter, but I have a con50 converter for one of them. and I use the cartridges in the other. In the one with the converter I'm using J. Herbin Emerald of Chivor ink. OK... questions: is it normal for ink to be kinda messy on the nib? I can't wipe it spotless clean unless the converter is empty, also, it leaked one time that I carried it, so now I'm afraid to carry it around. I checked all parts of the pen and can't figure out why that happened, any thought on that?. What is the best way to store a fountain pen? nib up? nib down? horizontal? Also, how long can you leave ink in a closed pen without using it? btw... now I want a Lamy Safari :) Thanks!
