Obviously is scripted, as with all "reality" shows. It's television after all, and for the purpose of entertainment. They do a good job of this show though, aside from trying to force the "characters" down our throats (Chumley for example. I don't watch the show for its comedy value, and his storylines are too ridiculous to believe or laugh at anyway) the information content about historical items is actually really good. And whether most of the transactions are "staged" or not, the its are genuinely interesting, and to info about how to detect fakes, or give a seller more of an idea about what documentation might prove something's authenticity, is useful to. If you want a TV show that's a TOTAL waste of airtime, and insults the intelligence of its viewers with its ridiculously poor script writing, then look no further than Hard Core Pawn. That show is beyond stupid. Chumley should be in it, for those that like cheap, nasty, fake TV
