4. ALTERNATE SOLUTION
   Provided that each person can continue to walk a straight line and the bridge is straight, the old man and janitor go at the same time and at their own pace. the janitor crosses over and comes back. when the janitor comes back, the old man must have made it safely over, so the lab assistant and the afro dude leave at the same time at their respective rates. By time the afro dude comes back, the lab assistant has made it. With the remaining 5 minutes, you and the janitor can cross together.

6. this was easy as hell :D Its really easy to solve such riddles if you write them down in paper and solve it from there.

11. get to to other side with the assistant, throw the lamp and let them come, bam saved 1 minute!
12. why do you have to save them at exactly 17 minutes when you can safely cross the bridge less than 17 minutes!!
    for example: the 2 slowest people will cross together for 10 minutes,they will carry the lamp obviously bec. they have low vision and then, the other 2 will cross together for 3 minutes,they will use their eyes because the eyes have the ability to adapt to darkness and also they can use the rope as the guide to cross. right?
    totally, they have at least 13 minutes or MORE because the last 2 people have the possibility to slow down to cross but i dont think it will consume 4 minutes more..

19. I know!! The fastest and the second fastest go first. Then the fastest goes back and brings the lantern. The slowest and second slowest go together. Then they bring the lantern to the second fastest. The second fastest goes and brings the lantern. Finally, you both cross together and cross the rope.
20. Can't the fastest one just carry the professor and cross? Then the lab assistant can go with the janitor.
