4. and never been ranked #1 in football or basketball... and never beaten a great team in football. Not that I have ever seen anyway. But this.... this was horrible. Dean Smith said he could have won multiple championships with this team and I believe him.

7. What I find unique thing is that this Virginia team had already beaten Georgetown- defending champs with Ewing- and the powerful Phi Slamma Jamma (until the NC State game, they were the last team to beat Houston)

13. @TheRealJohnnyGuns I have Lake Placid #1 and this #2. Almost forgot about Buster Douglas, and you are right App St beating Michigan is not the biggest upset ever. It's not even the biggest upset in the history of college football. I can think of three that are bigger #1 1921 Centre College over Harvard, #2 1926 Carnage Tech over Notre Dame, and #3 1950 Navy over Army all three of those are bigger than App St over Michigan.

16. APP beatig Michigan is the bigger upset. Football is a much harder upset than basketball.
17. Much bigger. App State is actually a pretty good FCS team. I knew that they had a good football team before they played UM. I saw this video and read the story behind it and was like "......Chaminade?"

19. Sampson was not scheduled to play that day. He only suited up b/c the fans wanted him to. The entire team had the flu from their trip to Japan the day before...
20. Man, I just remember crying my eyes out, after I heard about this loss. I was like 9-10 years old when this game happened. I hated going back to school because people knew that Ralph was my idol. This was a huge upset.
