It's not that hard to do, I did a few times at the old bowling alley in Hilo back in the early 80's.. My personal best was 1,403,000, but I haven't played standalone Donkey Kong machine for about 5 years, and I still got up to 600,000.
Amazing feat, like a lot of people I started playing when I saw the thing on net flix, but you quickly realize this is a game which could drive you mad. I think your brain needs to be hard wired a certain way to get anywhere near 800,00 points. Let alone this.
I'm a good gamer, I can take games off professionals in Street Fighter & Quake, but this game is something else, it simply requires a mindset which must be bordering on some kind of autistic spectrum to sustain the frustration, precision for what is a long period of time.
These old games like DK and Pacman are not like most modern games, its like they were games invented for Lucifer or something.
It would be really interesting if someone did a program which analyzed the people with the best 10 scores, did some kind of tests to see if my theory is true.
I bet there is a pattern.
Copeland, are you interested in buying a Super Nintendo, an Umihara Kawase reproduction cart, and competing with my high score?
Why does it appear that the difficulty level is higher even on the 1st level?
Hey wes, congrats on the score. that was sick. Can you or anyone tell me if theres a version on mame that doesnt have the cabinet borders on the screen? All the versions I have are squashed in by the borders!

first of all congratulations on your world record! but now mr. copeland, please put all that energy towards beating DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou's True Last Boss on an actual arcade machine. that'd be almost as impressive as that DK score and as far as i know, nobody has done it before (all the vids online are from the console version and very sketchy).

Great video Wes. I remember playing this in the arcade back when it was first released in the early 80's. This is still my all-time favorite arcade game, but I haven't played it in years. The closest arcade to me has it, but it's on a multicade machine, and not a true DK arcade unit.

This is an amazing achievement, congratulations. I am curious why I am seeing this reported as the "highest possible score" in the game when just skipping around I can find several opportunities where it looks like an expert such as yourself could squeeze another 100 points here or there. For example, at 1:03:23, Kong throws a barrel down to your immediate left and you don't jump. Is this because the timing is so precise to make it to the jump/smash combo at 1:03:25? Anyway congratulations on this it must be very satisfying.

How do you keep from dying of boredom? After the 10 minute mark my mind would start wandering and I would start fantasizing that a naked 27 year old Monica Bellucci was chasing me through a meadow in slow motion. By the time I got back to reality all my men would be dead.
I don't understand what kills Mario in the end ? there is no barrel or flame near him - is that a glitch ? or maybe he did hit a glass ceiling ?
