Initially, the thermonuclear warhead AN602 was designed with a capacity of 101.5 megatons. It was achieved due to the fact that the bomb was "three-stage". The first stage is a 1.5-megaton nuclear charge, which initiated a second-stage thermonuclear reaction with a power of more than 50 megatons. The third step was the shell of uranium-238 (usually it is not considered "weapon") - it was the reaction of Jekyll-Hyde (fission of uranium-238 nuclei under the influence of fast neutrons), which introduced another 50 megatons of power. From the third stage they decided to refuse, since its application would cause very serious radioactive contamination, whereas the first two steps were almost "clean"
