  3. He did it, back then, with limited training volume, and poor diet!!!!!! amazing guy
  4. Running was a closed shop in those days for graduates, but did you realise that the rest of the country were living in slums and their streets were still covered by bombed out buildings?
Worse, still; as Rog was enjoying the high life at Oxford, the rest of the country were still on rations and thousands of children and mothers had to continue life without fathers, so I know who had to deal with a harder battle than a 4 minute mile!
I bet his family didn't live like that and there weren't that many young men actually still alive in the country and that's what perpetuated the immigration from the West Indies and not because we gave them crap jobs and because we didn't want to do them!
You can't compare your times to Sir Roger Bannister rail, because he was an upper class twit; had the best coaches; ate the most nutritious food; spent his time studying at the tax payers' expense and running around a track, all while the rest of the country were living in slums and still on rations.
    That was the real England!
As soon as Rog set that record, 37 others beat it in following 2 years and all we hear about is how this Oxford graduate achieved something which we couldn't do, but that's like me setting a record for walking one mile while smoking a pipe, becasue nobody was daft enough to do it and 1500 was the target at those times instead!
These are the names of his children:
Erin Bannister Townsend, Clive Christopher Bannister, Thurstan Bannister.

Such a normal lad he was, so get stuffed!
