Everybody loves a one hit wonder, whether it's Buster Douglas shocking the world or Men Without Hats and their Safety Dance, so it's no surprise the UFC look to embrace it's flash-in-the-pan stars. This is a list of fighters who picked up one big win in their career, but despite their best efforts were unable to capitalise on their unexpected success. To address some of the points that people have been making on here; There have been a lot of people that have criticised me referring to the fighters in question as 'One Hit Wonders', stating that they couldn't be considered because of having long careers after their big win. Personally, my definition of a one hit wonder is "any entity that achieves mainstream popularity and success for a very short period of time, often for only one piece of work, and becomes known among the general public solely for that momentary success." I consider all five of the fighters chosen to be good competitors, but after their big win they did little to earn recognition other then being "the guy who beat _______". I could have called this video "Fighters who picked up one big win and didn't capitalise on it" but that wouldn't have been very trendy.
As for the inclusion of Holly, I have all the respect for her as a fighter and a person. She was an amazing boxer and justified winning as many titles as she did, but for the purposes of this video I judged her solely on her MMA record, which prior to beating Rousey was solid but with no real high-profile scalps to show for it (a scrappy win against Pennington was probably the biggest), and of course post Rousey she has failed to win at all (although she has been unlucky twice). The other big factor with Holly over the others is the scale of the hype around her post 193. After the Rousey win Holly was hyped up as this MMA tyrant that was going to become the face of the sport and dominate for years to come, and then abandoned her when her next fights failed to live up to expectations. It's similar to one hit wonders in music, and people saying Psy was going to break K-Pop in the West because of Gangnam Style.
I hope Holly can get some big wins and make this list redundant, but as of now it is very hard to argue against her, especially after the GDR fight which IMO she should have won easily.
