The Red Sox tie the game in the 9th inning against Mariano Rivera in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, preventing a Yankee sweep of the Red Sox.

Comments

  1. And that my friends, was the beginning of the end.
  2. rivera most overrated "closer" in baseball history. its upsetting he gets so much praise. what a great team he got lucky to land on. not surprising he couldnt be a starting pitcher.

p.s. i love watching that douche lose games
im gonna go watch his awesome performance vs the diamondbacks
  3. This is still so painful to watch even 13 years later...
  4. Chief Justice Roberts delivers the judgment from Red Sox Nation.
  5. I've replaced caffeine with this video.
  6. While this was surprising, the real choke was the next game, when Tom Gordon couldn't go one inning without losing a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning. Gordon was a career regular season stud and post-season dud. Rivera had a career post-season 0.40 ERA. This was just a blip on the radar for him.
  7. Now I'm wondering if something similar will happen with the Capitals beating the Penguins in the Stanley Cup playoffs this year ;) (Penguins get a goal waved off or similar? Caps get a goal in the last few seconds to tie the game?)
  8. 2004 yanks blew a 3-0 lead
  9. And then the Red Sox won the Series. It never gets old.
  10. Even if the Yankees were to miss the playoffs every year through the end of time, that wouldn't be worse than 2004.  At the possible risk of sounding ungrateful for what Mariano Rivera contributed to the Yankees, because that's certainly not my intention, I think it's fair to criticize him this 1 time.  Now that I've seen it again, his pitch selection to Kevin Millar doesn't make sense to me.  Why on earth didn't he throw his cutter away to Millar?  I'm not just saying that because of what ended up happening, or because I read a quote from Millar in Joe Torre's book "The Yankee Years" where Millar admitted that he was trying to pull a home run over the Green Monster in that at-bat.  I'm saying that because his greatest pitch, & 1 of the greatest pitches of all-time, was his cutter inside to lefties & away to righties. If you get beat, you wanna get beat with your best pitch.
  11. The best series ever for neutral fans, Red Sox fans and not so much for Yankees fans
  12. Mueller doesn't get enough credit. His hit was one of the biggest hits in Red Sox history
  13. the moment was too big for Rivera. I respect his complete career, but you can't deny that he cracked here. that effects his legacy.
  14. imagine what could be different today if rivera had reacted just a second quicker and caught that ball.. they could still be cursed
  15. i like all these comments saying "oh i remember watching this when i was 10" or "this made me like baseball at the age of 6". I was 1. i was probably watching spongebob
  16. crazy how life is that close, one blown save from the best closer of all time to close a series 4-0, and they blew that and the whole series. Terrible memory but I miss when Yankees used to be in this position yearly, even more painful watching them now.
  17. What's the song playing at 6:33? After Roberts scores
  18. The  biggest choke in all of baseball ever.. The Skankees blew it. There was never a curse. It just took the right players to finally win and we did. This is great.
  19. I almost forgot to watch this today
  20. The greatest series ever. This series and Butlers Interception are my 2 most memorable/euphoric moments of Boston sports history. The odd's were stacked against us but we prevailed! City of Champions!
