Giant chickens: A bizarre, cruel trend in Brazil

Genetic engineering is usually used in chickens to make them more resilient to disease. In Brazil, chickens are genetically modified to make them giant and produce larger eggs and more flesh.

  1. The giant chicken breeds of SE Asia, like the Malay Game chicken, are descended from a cross of a giant wild Gallus species with domestic chickens. In prehistoric times, there was indeed a giant species of chicken - if you take a look at the Malay Game chicken of today, it is the closest to this ancient giant wild chicken - they were natural giants.

  7. How is this cruel? People have created tiny breeds of dogs. They have created tiny breeds of horses. So...if this came to KFC, I would order me a buck to go.
  8. So, why don't you just raise turkeys, instead of trying to re-invent the wheel?
