Giant Jellyfish Found By Divers In The UK SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj A jellyfish filmed swimming off the coast of Cornwall is thought to be the biggest ever caught on camera in Britain. The four-foot wide barrel jellyfish, which is also known as the dustbin-lid jellyfish, was filmed by diver and archeologist Robert Lenfert. Robert, 42, and his wife Natasha, 39, met the giant creature off Pendennis Point, near Falmouth, Cornwall. The pair swam beside the giant sea beast for half an hour as it glided through the water. 8. Funny how we were just talking about the jellyfish threat today in my bio class. Not to be an activist, but apparently colder regions are seeing more jellyfish of all kinds because they like the warmer waters produced by global warming, and because us humans have over fished their predators/competition.
  9. its the mother jellyfish from Spongebob!!!

  19. This species is virtually harmless. I've been told jellyfish that wash up on beaches are often more irritating than live ones because they break down, and the nematocyte (the bit that delievers the sting) begins to constantly release a chemical soup that varies from species to species in potency. The barrel jellyfish is nothing to be afraid of, but they do look very impressive in person. The compass jellyfish is a mild bother from what I gather, but not too serious. The Lion's Mane jellyfish is more of a bother, and especially the rather infamous Portuguese man of war which can even affect the nervous system and heart rhythm.
Some articles quoted me as saying 'it was the largest ever filmed', etc. I said it was certainly a full-grown specimen... : ) It might well be. Perhaps this could be verified by a marine expert though I rather doubt it. Regardless, I hope to see more though, they are fascinating and don't let these amazing creatures put anyone off entering the water.
