Greatest Mysteries of World War 2 Hitler's Engima

World war 2

Comments

  1. The lies told by the victors of WW2 may never be decoded.
  2. Excuse me, Mr American commentator, but the game of rounders is not and never was the British version of baseball. In fact, rounders has been played in England since at least 1744 when it was known as base-ball. The game of baseball, in the U.S.A., was invented in 1839 by a person named Abner Doubleday. As usual, the U.S.A. invented everything. It is also ironic that he mentioned that they had been involved in the war for more than a year then mentions a date sometime in 1942, less that a year of their participation. By the way, Turing was not "gay" as stated by the commentator, he was homosexual. No mention of Gordon Welchman. Why not?
  3. They left out Gordon Welchman....who was smarter than all in this movie...the one that REALLY figured it out..
  4. I think Dulles wanted to keep the war going, they had to have the US participate
  5. Can you imagine having such an unqualified success, only to realize that you cannot act upon all the data, because it would alert the enemy of the compromise! You then must determine Mathematically how much intelligence to impart without tipping your hand. Essentially, you'd be playing God to one degree or another. Everyone knows it's for the "greater good", but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. God bless them all for sacrificing and contributing to the defeat of Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler.
  6. Alan Turing was most certainly the cornerstone of cryptography and his "Turing Machines" created and set in the motion the future of the digital reprogrammable computer. It's shameful and tragic that the man most responsible for saving Europe and defeating Adolf Hitler was found guilty and persecuted for being homosexual by his very own country that he saved from a Nazi invasion to the extent that Alan Turing took his own life on 06/07/1954. How easy it is for a government to "point a finger" at someone when they're not being threatened by a swastika wearing psychopath. The United States government is just as guilty when they prosecuted Captain Charles Butler McVay III, the C.O. of the U.S.S Indianapolis. Captain McVay III had requested a Destroyer escort several times for his top secret "Manhattan Project" mission to Tinean Island but he was denied everytime. Captain McVay III was Court Martialed and dishonorably discharged after his ship was torpedoed and sunk by a Japanese submarine, something that might not have occurred with a Destroyer escort. Tragically Captain McVay III also took his life on 11/06/1968. Many years later Captain McVay III was exonerated of any wrongdoing doing by a Naval review board and was posthumously awarded the "Medal Of Honor".
  7. Insightful documentary!
  8. It is now known that Professor(in Mathematics) Arne Beurling from Sweden (1905-86) was the man behind the breaking of the German Geheimschreiber. David Kahn writes in "The Codebreakers":Quite possibly the finest feat of cryptoanalysis performed during the Second World War was Arne Beurling's solution of the secret of the Geheimschreiber.
Arne Beurling's greatness is given by the fact he had at his disposal only the teleprinter tapes with the cipher text. He had no access to any machine. Everything had to be reconstructed, something which was done in a remarkably short time. It is known that he based his analysis on only 24 hours of traffic intercepted on 25 may 1940. A quick analysis showed that the first assumptions probably were correct. A check was made with the traffic intercepted on 27 May. Two weeks later the construction principles for the cipher machine were solved. On the other hand it is not known how he set about it. That secret Arne Beurling took with him to the grave.
  9. If you knowall the enemies plans, they can only lose.
  10. Seems like Turing may have had Asberger's. It's not unusual for people with brilliant minds to have difficulty with everyday tasks, getting along with others or circumstances requiring "common sense."  The same goes for many of the world's best artists, writers, dancers, etc.- many of them had problems with mental illness, especially bi-polar disorder. Years ago I read a very good novel about a woman who was married to a brilliant mathematics prof. who had a terrible time with the mundane functions of life. It was called "The Mind-Body Problem"- funny, sad, evocative....check it out. Written by a woman whose name I cannot remember.
  11. Great documentary.
  12. Actually we have two significant achievements. First made by polish cryptologists who discovered algorithms breaking of enigma ciphers and second made by Alan Turing who increased computing power and created fundamentals for IT.
  13. ABCD-THE AMERICAN BLACK CHAMBER
  14. Is this similar to the latest code technique sent in a tweet from Snowden's twitter accnt?
  15. 1:17 did he say a 'Super Cray Computer'
  16. 11:54 Różycki is pronounced more like "Rooshytsky".
  17. the enigma is amazing. It is so well made. I tried it out and it is awesome.
  18. get over the fcuking Brit bashing for fcuks sake. Had Britain not fought off invasion in 1940 NONE of us would be alive today. Yes, well done the brave Poles. And well the USA as usual for standing on the shoulders of better men (British). Why these youtube documentaries continually bring out animosity betw European countries and UK - well - words fail me. Easy to have a better plan 75 years later, sure.
