Irv is real and he just followed the Volvo instructions for maintaining it. Castrol oil was always the preferred then just keeping up with the miles.
He had already enough miles for the first service like a weekend or week later for that. The dealer laughed you just got it but insisted they followed the instructions so the car got its first maintenance of many.
Now people forget how tough the B18 and B20 motors were but maintained they could last well and hard.
Don't forget Sweden is a cold hard climate and Volvo was usually 11 years on the road on average in the US. They are build tough on all accounts.
I've driven those cars, being an old car guy, I can really appreciate that Irv must have a high tolerance (and an iron butt!!) for sitting in and driving what is basically a vintage car. Good for Irv. It’s a Really Kool car and a Great story. Wonder what kind of oil he uses and how often he changes it? On Volvo’s maintenance schedule or?? Would have been nice to have had those kinds of questions asked.

great interview... I recall the p1800... o always liked them even the 1973 wagon.. this is the. same car as the one driven by Roger Moore in The Saint.
