Guinness World Records celebrate 60th anniversary with host of new records

The global authority on record-breaking achievement, Guinness World Records, has announced it's 60th anniversary book, which includes a new array of record-holders. The Guinness World Records book, which was first published in 1955 has become a phenomenon, selling over 132 million copies in over 100 countries. The latest edition features a host of weird and wonderful record-breakers, like Nick Stoeberl, a 24-year-old Californian who holds the record for the world's longest tongue, a mighty 10.1 cm (3.97 in) in length. "My tongue's useful for a lot of the conventional things you would think, licking lolly pops, eating ice cream and getting all of the pudding out of the bottom of a cup," he said. In Britain, part-time inventor Yannick Noah has built the world's smallest caravan. The vehicle, which is fully roadworthy, named the 'QTvan' measures 2.39m (7 ft 10.9 in) in length, is 1.53 m (5 ft 0.24 in) high and 0.79 m (2 ft 7.9 in) wide but still contains a full sized bed, TV, sink and kettle. And 49-year-old Karsten Maas from Denmark has created the world's longest usable golf club, which measures 5.37m (14ft 5 in) in length and has been used to drive a ball a distance of 1645.56m (542ft 10,16 in). "When other golfers see it they are looking a lot and thinking if that at all is possible to hit with a club like this, but it is, and it's funny, and so it has to be," he said. The 2015 edition of the book marks its anniversary exploring the changes in record-breaking that have happened over the past six decades. For instance in the first edition of the book, the most expensive bottle of wine cost £8 - whereas nowadays a bottle can cost 7,500 times more than that. However according to Guinness World Records, some records remain unbeaten, with the 1939 movie "Gone with the Wind" holding on to the title of the highest grossing movie after taking £88 million at the international box office. Adjust this amount with inflation, and it comes up as a total gross of $3.44 billion. The Guinness World Records 2015 is in stores on September 11.
