How a 2 stroke detroit diesel engine runs

I have a couple videos of my 2 stroke detroit diesel powered pickup here on youtube, and I have gotten hundreds and hundreds of questions about how in the world it runs, and lots of people who do not believe that it really is a 2 stroke. So, I'm sorry, I don't have the best voice in the world, and I'm not the best at explaining things or getting the right words to come out, but I did my best in this video to try to give you an idea of how it runs.

  2. you did a good job explaining the workings of a two stroke diesel engine! thanks. a good example of a two stroke diesel engine would be the little r/c car motors. they use the same exact method to run. instead of having a blower to force new air in there is a rubber tube that goes from the exhaust to the carb that forces fuel/air mixture in through the inlet vents. I have used a little COX .49 nitro motor. which is essentially a super small two stroke diesel to explain how the full size ones work. the two stroke diesel is a really cool simple motor. they can run forever if maintained.
  3. diesel fuel, kerosene and jet a are all "light oil".
  4. The reason this engine doesn't need oil in the fuel is because it uses a blower, leaving the crankcase free to hold oil. In a gas 2-stroke the downward motion of the piston forces the fuel air mixture out of the crankcase, meaning the crankcase can't be used to hold oil, since it's being used to force the fuel-air mix into the cylinder.

In terms of lubrication, the 2-stroke deisel is exactly the same as a 4-stroke, with a wet sump and pressurized oil. That's why it doesn't need mix.
  5. in take ports
  6. wouldn't the oil from the cylinder get into the intake?
  7. Dude, write a script please, not bad for winging it though
  8. you dd'd a pickup

i want to DD a motorbike
  9. u could mention the crank case of a chain saw engine is the blower using the down stroke to push in fuel.
  10. Can this engine actually build any turbo boost? Or is the turbo just there for scavenging? Since the intake and exhaust are open at the same time, I feel like all the boost pressure would just be blown out the tailpipe.
  11. 3 millions miles later.... truck was replaced from the engine
  12. DECENT VIDEO...
  13. why arnt they still used?

  15. Do you mix diesel
  16. I watched your video, hoping you would tell us what your mpg is? My brother had a boat with a 471 that really sipped fuel. 1/2 gal per hour.
  17. How does power output compare? You get 1 detonation per crank revolution, compared to 0.5 detonations per revolution in a 4 stroke. 2x the number of detonations means near 2x the power?
  18. Is there bottom end oil if so, how does it not escape through the intake ports?
  19. You explained as well as anyone and there is nothing wrong with your voice. If we wanted Pavarotti then he is also here on Youtube and he doesn't even know about diesel Two-strokes.

I have a voice like a sparrow being strangled but still managed seven years of teaching adults with no complaints ( about my voice at least )
  20. just took classes on the ol 2 strokes and how to rebuild the blowers !! there very interesting
