How to Grow a Venus Flytrap (Basic Care Guide)

A video about the basic aspects of keeping a venus flytrap alive. It pretty much needs: -A lot of sunlight, or a growlight indoors. -Soil free of nutrients or fertilizers. -It should be watered with distilled, RO, or Rain water which is free of minerals or other dissolved solids. -Keep the moist but never standing in water. -For dormancy keep it outside until november, then bring it inside and keep a growlight over it, turning it on at 9am and off at 3pm.

  9. As ive been growing flytraps and pitcher plants for 15 years now I have to argue against your advisement to avoid wet feet. So long as you have perlite in large enough quantity in your soilless media the plants actually prefer having a few cm of water around their feet. The key is one still needs to overhead water. In fact i know more people who have killed their plants by letting them get to dry and only a single one who killed it through overwatering and that was with the water level within an inch of the top of the pot. I grow many in bog bowls with pinguicula (butterworts), drosera spathulata (spoonleaf sundew), sarrecenia pupurea, sarrecenia leucophylla and alata and they do great. Last year i even had a 2.5 inch trap on one
  10. Awesome 😁 You look so young, how do you know so much already?
  11. Hi Wolfpath, thanks for this video man, very helpful. I do have a question. So I recently bought a VFT planted in the same pot as a Sarracenia Purpúrea Pitcher Plant and I'm worried about the watering aspect of it. I currently am using the tray method to water the plants, so should I separate the VFT from the Pitcher and provide separate pots?

    Thanks.
  12. just purchased a VFT and this video was super helpful! thanks!
  13. Why do I feel like this guy grows weed as well?
  14. can we water the fly traps when you plant them?
  15. That's great video, I just bought myself the plant . So what I need to do is keep the soil humid but not to much and to keep in on a sunny place like a balcony, right ? I'm living in a small county called Bulgaria located in the southeast Europe , the summer here is hot with temperatures reaching 40+ ºC and its not verry rainy like it have dry periods and the winter is real cold with temperatures reaching up to - 20 ºC and we have a good amount of snow . So my main question is if it does need a lot of cares into this environment , or it will fit in the summer with more often watering ? And during the winner I will need to bring it indoors and water it normally , or ? And about the water is it okay if I will boil pot water will it will still burn the roots or it's best if I buy distilled water?
  16. my set came with Venua Flytraps and Pitcher plants. Is it ok to grow them together in the same pot?
  17. What cultivar is the trap with short, triangular teeth and red color inside, not outside?
  18. Jake is 7 and got his first Fly Trap today and he says "this was very good video - I like your video - thank you for doing the video I liked it alot" I didn't want my fly traps to die
  19. i put my VFT in the fridge for dormancy and now its march and i took a peek at him and he looks green and some little traps. but there are two small fuzzy mold spots. is my plant damaged or in danger? should i repot it now or wait til its warmer. I am in the northeast.
  20. I, have a question is it okay to put in near the window I have a filter with small holes in it and if I do how long should it stay by there?
