How to start a 2 stroke Big Bore Motocross Bike

Here is a short video I made to demonstrate a great way to start a big bore 2 cycle motocross bike in 1 or 2 kicks.

  1. the easy way to start your big bore with one kick cold every time is to turn gas on pull chock put bike in gear and rock it back and forth a few times then put back in neutral set up top dead center and give it one good kick workes every time (yz490) (cr500) (kx500)
  2. This totally worked on my '99 KTM 380 2- stroke after not riding it for 3+ months! Excellent tip!

  9. Yes!!! Success !!! Thanks bro !
  10. Isn't kicking it over a few times slowly just as easy to prime it?
  11. I'm the proud and original owner of a 1990 yz490.New it was always hard to start cold taking at least 5 minutes even with the choke but on this bike I found a very easy fix. While my brothers bike a kx500(very fast bike) by the way,he had to do the same.but on the 490 there is what they called a y.e.s. bottle on the left side that has a hose that goes to the carb.I would just pull the hose and put a mild shot of starting fluid in it before I left my house. Then I could drive up to an hour to where I wanted to ride unload turn on the gas and choke and with one kick it would start up.lol.Used to make him mad because he was still trying to start his.I'm also thinking of selling it restored.Anyone know what the restored value would be on a 90 490?
  12. My 1982 CR480R has been sitting for over 3 weeks I just tried this I held the Left side vent closed hose on the right side with this method started in 1 kick! Amazing thanks!!

  16. I have a 125 sachs bee 2008 that wont start put in new sparkplug and new battery can any one help
  17. That's why old european carbs had ticklers. Good video..
  18. I dont know what blowing air in the carby like this does but what i suspect is its just airating the fuel, you cant pressurize shit - i find that its much easyer to just turn the fuel off, lay the bike over (to drain the carby) when fuel stops coming out of the tubes, pick the bike up, turn the fuel on and there you go. it happens whenever i dont ride for more than 2 weeks (summer) and the good stuff evaporates off the fuel inside the carby, i still flog people on 2012 300exc with my 96' 250. doing the top end on her atm
  19. I am 52 years old just got my 89 KX125 back from the shop and tried to start it. wore myself out twice coming inside, back out,  inside again. I was so frustrated I loaded it back on the truck to take it back to the shop tomorrow and have them check it again.  I tried your advise and just like you said started on the 2nd Kick GLORY! I am SO HAPPY!  PRAISE GOD!  Thank you so much my friend!  Rich
  20. i have a nsr 125 with a 38mm keihin carb from a cr250 1996 but it always struggles to start , i have to charge the battery 2 or 3 times mostly everytime to make it start. it sometimes starts easier when i block the air intake (creates pressure) but whenever its morning or cold it basically wont start , it just seems like it dosent fire (spark)  can anyone help, i have a 45 slow and 185 main and needle clip is on the top setting
