While a mage can put a curse on you to make you think your hands are going numb or that your kid is born with a club foot a bard can place a satire on you to destroy you in the eyes of your friends, your family and yourself, and if the satire was clever enough it would live on so that even after you were dead people would laugh at your absurdity. Is it strange that this track is what I think of when I hear that quote? Hell no. I think this is more than a diss track, this is a satire in the bardic sense. While most diss tracks are simply focused on 'I'm better than you.' No vaseline goes a step beyond and showcases the hypocrisy, disingenuous spirit and absurdity of NWA with brutal and insulting honesty while at the same time he emphasizes his own feelings of betrayal and sympathy for the manipulation that's going on behind the scenes. It's a complete and utter dissection. Cube puts together a satire that indicted all of NWA and focused the wrath on Eazy-E. They had no response, Cube was too on point, too honest, too satirical to even be answered. Now Eazy-E is dead and every time I hear that Jeri-curl line I laugh a little. Don't ever doubt the power of bardic satire in the medium of rap and hip-hop.
