Killer Whales Attacking a Blue Whale.

his may be the biggest and most brutal animal attack ever caught on film: a pod of killer whales attacking a blue whale, the largest animal on the planet. Watch how the orcas coordinate their efforts on the tail and use their numbers to overwhelm the blue whale's greater size. The scene is captured by Bill Boyce and his crew while out filming off the coast of San Quintin, Baja California.

7. I honestly hate that orcas will hunt and kill larger whales because it seems so goddamn wasteful. They don't have the means to penetrate the thick, blubbery layers to get to the organs, so they basically eat the lower jaw, tongue, maybe part of the fluke, and leave the rest of the animal just floating in the ocean. I know it's just what happens in nature, but goddamn is it freaking wasteful and annoying.

9. In case you didn't know, Blue Whales are prey for a pod of Killer Whales. Doesn't matter how big they are, or how far they can dive. Killer whales are literally one of the most intelligent and efficient hunters of the entire animal kingdom. They even eat sharks. Read about it before you say it's not possible or that this wasn't an attack on a Blue Whale. You'd be surprised what you can learn if actually take time to read instead of looking like idiots that think they know it all
10. is it confirmed that they killed it? Seems likely but from the boat's vantage point it's hard to make out anything other than that there clearly is a blue whale surrounded by orcas...

    There is just no way those smaller whales would be able to sustain chasing a blue whale if they were at the same level of energy. Opportunity is key in the animal kingdom.
