Kirk Gibson's 1988 World Series historic home run-great quality

Kirk Gibson's historic home run in the bottom of the 9th inning- game one of the 1988 World Series between the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Announced by Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola. Gibson was at the plate for a full 6 minutes. No one ever came forward with this historic and valuable home run ball.

  1. I was an A's fan, but strangely knew the series was over when Gibson knocked it out of the park. That was the difference between these A's and the 70's A's, they didn't handle adversity as well. Theses A's were hugely talented, but they lacked that scrappiness of the 70's A's and other true dynasties.

  3. THE greatest home run in post season baseball. Brings tears to my eyes every time I see it.
  4. that was what led to the Dodgers winning it all. I have another case in point, the Bash Brothers got held to almost nothing in the series. Jose Conseco 1-for-17, Mark McGwire 1-for-19. I'm sorry, but with numbers like that it's a Miracle that the series went 5 games.
  5. nah the best was 2011 go cards cubs suck forever we got 11 u got 3 catch up then will talk
  6. HIGH FLY BALL INTO RIGHT FIELD...SHE IS GONEEEE!!!
  7. Totally forgot it was a 3-2 count!  What an at bat!
  8. So much fun to re-live. As usual, Vin was perfect with the call. I followed the Dodgers all season in '88, mostly listening to Vin & Jerry Doggett on the radio. I just watched "The Natural" and wanted to watch life imitating art once again. Even knowing the outcome, the dramatic build-up is absolute Hollywood. Adding to the magic was the fact that Gibson was so badly hampered that he did not appear the rest of the Series, but the Dodgers won anyway 4 games to 1. Amazing sauce!
  9. Props to the graphics guy for dropping the foreshadowing factoid (6:23), right at the start of the at-bat, that Eckersley had not given up a home run in nearly two months.
  10. was the greatest post season homer run until Big Papi's to keep the sox alive in 04 against the yankees
  11. Thank's, that never get's old. Dennis is right Vinny & Joe are Hall Of Fame. I wish more announcers knew when not to talk. Hint... #55
