If Japan didn't have all of these tsunami barriers, earthquake proof buildings and earthquake protocols they would've been fucked. Imagine what would happen to the pacific northwest with their expected earthquake. Cities like Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland, completely vulnerable would be destroyed.
