Largest NATURAL Musical Instrument in the WORLD

This is a video of a stalagtite organ that plays instead of pipes, by using rubber mallots that strike various stalagtites throughout the caverns. Our first visit to Luray Caverns in Virginia. The song played is an old Gospel called:"A Mighty Fortress is our God"

  1. I think the sponsors should be calling this a stalactite carillon (the definition of "bell" is more flexible that that of "organ pipe"). I shudder to think of how tuning is controlled -- they wouldn't sculpt ancient stalactites to the necessary dimensions required for the desired tunings, would they?
  2. Amazing! I've never even heard of this "natural organ". I could make out;A MIGHTY FORTRESS IS OUR GOD....WOW! I know those stalagtites have been there a looooooong time, but...do they ever melt? The sound went from bright to deep grumbling. Nature can be absolutley WONDROUS! Thanks!

  10. Sounds pretty good, and use nature to play music is a great and beautyful idea ... but what is that noise? Does it come from the camera, or is it Woody Woodpecker? lol
