The PEPCON explosion happened sometime in 1988....I enlisted to the Luftwaffe back then, and didn't take heed of it. But such a massive detonation...incredible! But this is what happens when 4,5 kilotons of AP are stored in open yards, with nothing but a garden hose to extinguish even a small fire! I wonder where the US Chemical Safety Bord was before Pepcon was flattened by the series of detonations. Oxidyzers are explosives, too, just as the West Fertilizer Explosion has cleanly showed, and the bloke who blew up the Community Centre in one of the southern states of the US - suppose his name was Timothy Mc Veigh - also knew that. He used Ammonium Nitrate for his homemade bomb.

I really wish they would stop adding sound effects for the explosions and just leave the stock audio.

Well there seems to be a lot of conjecture here. This may not be the largest conventional explosion ever but it is close. 9 million pounds of ammonium perchlorate going off in this case with a natural gas pipe line going off at the same time underneath the plant is about 4 kilotons of TNT. The 2 smaller explosions really don't count because they are so small compared to the other two. First explosion, 1.5kt, second explosion 3kt.

Cheesiet sound effect ever. A half mile away and the explosion sound happens at the same time? It should at take at least two seconds before you hear anything. Time = distance / velocity or 805m/347m/s = 2.32 seconds

now compare that with the Waco fertilizer plant Explosion, re: Explosion meaning what it damaged, yet they make it like yep a man, just in the grounds on the grass, re: look up the plant, you can see where he was parked, yet no damage & the town near the plant damaged to the point nursing homes people were killed ? Yet the car footage man, did not make a call at all, other than to a news station for cash. ?
