Largest tornado ever recorded? 2.5 miles wide! Hallam, Nebraska 2004

**From the TVN storm chasing vault!** On May 22, 2004, TVN storm chasers Reed Timmer and Dean Schoeneck documented the massive Hallam, Nebraska tornado. The 2.5 mile-wide F-4 monster was so large, and partially obscured by rain, that the two were actually overtaken by the tornado at one point during their escape out of the path, making an unintentional direct intercept. They were VERY lucky to come out unharmed! Up until El Reno, OK tornado of May 31, 2013 was documented at 2.6 miles wide, the Hallam tornado held the record for the widest path, at least since records began in 1955. 10. I live in Cortland, NE which is 3-4 miles east of Hallam. Good thing was we only suffered windows broken and partial house damage but it was manageable. What I thought was crazy though was at the beginning of the video when they drove through Clatonia, it has changed so much since then. Like that elevator is gone and half of those stores have changed. Crazy video to look back on.

  17. At 2.6 Miles wide, this is the largest Tornado ever recorded. Touchdown was near El Reno Oklahoma on 5-31-13. This tornado was very deceptive to many due to its appearance and size. The bulk of what you are seeing at 2:50 is a large wedge tornado.Jun 7, 2013
