MEGA TSUNAMI - Recorded by camera - World's Biggest Tsunamis (giant waves)

A tsunami ("port wave"), sometimes also called tidal wave (from the Latin: mare, sea + motus, movement), is a series of water waves caused by the displacement of a large volume of a body of water, as a Ocean or a large lake. Tsunamis are a frequent occurrence in the Pacific Ocean: approximately 195 events of this type have been recorded. Due to the immense volumes of water and energy involved, tsunamis can devastate coastal regions. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other submarine explosions (detonations of nuclear artifacts at sea), landslides and other mass movements, impacts, and other disturbances above or below water have the potential to generate a tsunami. The Greek historian Thucydides was the first to relate a tsunami to submarine earthquakes, but the understanding of the nature of the tsunami remained incipient until the twentieth century and is still the subject of research. Many ancient geological, geographic and oceanographic texts refer to tsunamis as seismic waves of the sea. Some meteorological conditions, such as deep (atmospheric) depressions that cause tropical cyclones, can generate a storm called meteotsunami, with elevation of the large mass of water to several meters above normal. The elevation comes from the great reduction of the atmospheric pressure in the center of the depression in relation to its surroundings. Reaching the coast may resemble (though not to) the tsunamis, flooding vast areas of land. A wave of this kind flooded Burma (Myanmar) in May 2008.
