Mens eights final Sydney 2000 olympic regatta.mpeg

Mens eights final from the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Won by possibly the greatest eight to ever take to the water. Check out the catches! This race is nowhere on Youtube that I can find, so I decided to remedy that! Apologies for quality, it is taken from an 11 year old video!

  1. Last year I had the pleasure of listening to Ben Hunt-Davis teaching us all how to win, promoting his management company and book at a corporate gathering. Ben gave a great speech, showed us the race (which had us all in tears of pride) and then, produced out of his trouser pocket ...his Olympic Gold medal! That's a showstopper for any corporate pow-wow.

After Ben observed me making my speech, I had the great privilege of talking to him, holding that medal and even getting my picture while wearing it - a true honour to be allowed to do so.

    Ben, thanks for everything.
  2. first
  3. LETS GO, LETS GO, LETS GO BOYS. i love the rowing. the commentators making it even more exciting.
  4. USA coach shifted boat layout, upset rhythm, lost race.....should be shot...
  5. I remember staying up into the early hours to watch this. Epic race and amazing commentary from Herbert.
  6. why would we lose to gbr. they aren't good. the joeys 1st IV could beat them
  7. I watched this race with Brothers in Arms by Junkie XL playing in the background (hit play as they go off the start), legendary
  8. 88 years between Olympic gold's from the country that invented the sport? C'mon UK, you're better than that. The same goes for the World Cup. What gives there?
  9. Somebody please tell me the name of the commentator thanks!
  10. A sport that GB can truly claim to dominate. For the past decade and a half at least we have been the benchmark.
  11. Jesus our black out tens are at 40! These men are BEASTS.
  12. Agree with Tony Larkman, the most perfect execution of race plan and technique I've ever seen in a rowing race. I often watch this as a reminder and to visualise how to move with the boat.
  13. The strokeman Steve Trapmore has such a great rhythm and the crew flow with such grace. No rushing off the back end. Hands smoothly away, even at race pace and an electrifying catch. Perfect rowing.
  14. What about the Australian come back? has there ever been a 8+ almost 4 second's off the pace and in 4th to come through the field with 500m to go and after such a bad start?
  15. It is so well raced!  Harry Mahon did a beautiful job coaching them.  Harry coached me and Rob Waddell, before Marty Aitken took over in my case.  The way the GB crew rows, is the way I envision the sweep rowing stroke when I close my eyes. AWESOME!
  16. Haha bow seat's oar is crabbed in the Great Britain shell at the end. Great race though, Britain really earned that win!
  17. It was being broadcast exclusively to Britain, why on Earth would they be unbiased?
  18. Still didn't win ;)
  19. He's not calling it a 2100m race
  20. imagine how good these men are at making love
