Metabolic Damage Is Real: The Biggest Loser Study

Science finds solid proof that rapid weight loss, as seen on TV shows like โ€œBiggest Loserโ€, causes long term metabolic damage. Show contestants were looked at six years after being on the show. Most all have since gained significant weight, many weighing even more now! Are their weight loss gains impossible to sustain? Here's the study: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/oby.21538/abstract Support the channel and show your vegan pride with a Happy Healthy Vegan tee or tank at http://shop.happyhealthyvegan.org Support the show and get fun rewards like a video shoutout, HHV t-shirts, CDs, and Anji's upcoming cookbook by becoming a patron at http://patreon.com/happyhealthyvegan CONNECT WITH HHV: http://facebook.com/happyhealthyvegan http://instagram.com/happyhealthyvegan http://patreon.com/happyhealthyvegan http://happyhealthyvegan.org Please subscribe for more healthy vegan recipes, health and fitness tips, interviews with vegan authorities, and much more from Anji and Ryan of Happy Healthy Vegan! ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸŒฝ ๐Ÿš ๐Ÿž Lovespirals "Heartstrings [Single]" Buy the new single & music video at: https://lovespirals.bandcamp.com

  1. As I sit here watching this I'm eating high carb low fat jasmine rice with oil free stir fried chinese cabbage with garlic and onions. Yum! I'm losing weight and regaining my health and I'm not counting anything.
  2. hahaha ryan's so funny, laughing at jillian michaels at 5:03 XD
  3. Oh hell yeah. I have always been overweight and went the whole route... diet pills, starvation, you name it diet for almost 50 years, and I can gain weight on about 1,000 calories a day. I eat WFPB and it has helped tremendously, but still not thin!
  4. Thanks for this...I needed to hear it and to be reminded to eat healthy and let my body do it's thing.
  5. I agree with metabolic damage, I have one, I am a year vegan now and I am stable 95-97kg I went down at begining to 89 but few month after I am 95kg again. I am stable 24% body fat(sad story). I eat only whole foods: full oats, sweet potatos, avocados and salads and beans and rice and nuts but still I have to watch what I eat and how much I eat. My weight does not give me mobility problems, I particiapate in cycling marathons (finish average middle in my age group) and do other sports. Of course I bench much more than skinny people but still it sucks to live with metabolic damage, thats what I wanted to say...
  6. WOW RYAN NEEDS TO MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT THIS B.S DR'S EPISODE

  7. These Biggest Loser heros, and many others like them lose all this weight, write their books, and make a few bucks. Then I hear the same final results. They gain it all back, and then I see their books being sold at garage sales and used book shops for 25 cents. Just eat freakin real food: plants, and exercise.
  8. To anyone who believes everything they see on shows like this. If you really believe that it is easy to lose a ton of weight and keep it off permanently, it is not as easy as it looks. I know from experience!
Over the Summer I lost a total of 25 lbs. It wasn't easy and I lost it slowly.
I went on long walks about 2 or 3 times a week. Usually between Five and 14 miles each time. One time I even walked a total of 24.3 miles! I was walking outside in the Florida heat for several hours at a time. I also went swimming for an hour or more a few times.
After each walk, I only lost two or three lbs!!! Same with swimming, I only lost a few lbs each time from that to.
I went on a diet and did not eat very much over the Summer at all. I didn't eat fast food, I drank 0 calorie diet soda and water. Over the entire Summer I probably only drank 10 cans of beer (That's not normal for me, I used to kill a 12 pack every week)!
I starved myself for two days straight! Then I ate very little on the 3rd day. (BTW, DON'T STARVE YOURSELF! YOU HAVE TO EAT OR IT CAN CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS OR EVEN DEATH!!!!!) I did that because I was desperate to lose weight fast.
Then I talked to a Doctor and a Dietician. I explained that I was trying to lose weight, I was dieting and exercising, etc. The Dietician said, "Don't starve yourself anymore, you'll kill yourself!"
I said, "Navy Seals and Army Rangers have to do it as part of their training and they lose a lot of weight." (Ten years ago, I used to be in the Army.)
She said, "Most of the weight they lose from doing that they gain it all back rather quickly after their training is done. Besides that, you're not an Army Ranger or a Navy Seal."
Anyway, at the end of Summer, I got injured and a Doctor told me to stop exercising for a while and just relax until my injuries healed.
When I recovered from muscle injuries in my legs and back as well as having a cyst removed on my back, the Doctor said it would be safe for me to start exercising again.
However, I never got back into the routine of walking or doing a whole lot of other exercise again. Within just a few months- over the Winter, I gained literally ALL of the weight I lost over the Summer back!!!
You really have to work hard for a long time to lose a significant amount of weight. It is not easy to lose it and it's even harder to keep the weight off for a long time!
(Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was the Governor of California. He didn't have much time to workout. What happened to him? He gained weight and stopped building and maintaining muscle mass!)
  9. Awesome video!
  10. good way to give yourself a heart attack that biggest loser crap.
  11. i had a habbit of overeating animal products when i was younger. i have not eaten meat in 3 yeara and i have been vegan for 11 months and eork out 5 times a week ... i think my metabolism is broken... nothing works haha.
  12. what do you do for diabetes ?
  13. Jillian Micheals is screwed in the head because she was bullied in middle school/high school and got called fat cow and porky pig- etc.... That's why she's acts the way she does - also a bull dike
  14. I got fatter on recommendations like yours - been HCLF for over 2 years. FATTER! Now I'm trying something different (HFLC) vegetarian. I agree with not too much protein, so it's a matter of flipping the macronutrient ratios. I sure do miss my rice and beans, but doing the same thing and expecting different results is not so smart. It's not easy when you don't eat meat.
  15. great video. I need to go vegan
  16. I've been starving myself for the past 2 weeks and have lost 6 pounds. I'm afraid to stop though because I don't want to gain it back. Plus I'm still not where I want to be. I want to weigh 100 pounds but I feel like I'll never get there eating a "normal" amount of food.
  17. how do I fix my messed up metabolism on a vegan diet?
  18. What confuses me about this entire debate is that it is not discussed that every time you lose weight, you lose lean muscle as well as fat. Therefore, your metabolism goes down. So, it makes sense to me that if you up our exercises and weight bearing exercise while and after calorie restriction, you will not suffer from this phenomena of weight gain after weight loss and calorie restriction. Lean muscle controls metabolism.
  19. I can't get over how cool the song sounds! lol! :)
  20. I love the song! Cool stuff! Oh yeah and informative diet advice too!
