Michael Carter National High School Record Shot Put

Michael Carters National High School record in the Shot Put, 81'3 1/2" (24.78 meters) Carter set this mark at the 1979 Golden West Invitational (Sacramento, CA) while competing for Jefferson High School of Dallas, Texas. No high school athlete has come within four feet of this record since. In 2004 this record was selected by USA Track & Field as the 16th greatest moment in American track and field over the previous quarter century, the only high school mark to make the top 25 greatest moments.

  1. Every now and then, there's alway some junior who throws 70 plus feet and next thing you know everyone is talking about breaking Carter's record in their senior year. Sorry, nobody but nobody has come close to his 81 feet. Four feet might as well be 4 miles, Carter's record is the greatest high school individual record in all sports.
  2. i go to the same school where he was 😓
  3. Unfortunately, it's widely considered as the record, but it was after he graduated high school, so it's not the "official" record. Which is kind of bullshit.
  4. Aaaaaaaaand now his daughter just won a GOLD MEDAL for the United States in the women's shot put in Rio 2016!!! Very cool!
  5. agreed! My hs coach also told me the same thing- unbelievable throw!
  6. pshhhhhhhh hold my beer...
  7. I dont know why if some videos dont have ambient sound, they are still uploaded with anoyying static sound lol that is one of the best 6th tjrows every on any competition
  8. @Middflapslap Lol a 1/4 that definitelly is something to laugh, applaud and feel not as bad about it.... I guess
  9. 76 feet and some change by Brent Noon
  10. What state?
  11. I threw 56 feet 4 inches at the Maryland state championship in 1977 . I regret not spending more time on the weights .
  12. this is why i tell people glide can be just as good as the spin.
  13. That is one big ass 18 yo.
  14. He threw over 55 as a freshman.
  15. everyone..... the only way to throw 81'3" is to b a huge black guy... thats it
  16. ryan crouser has the best chance...he went 77 ft indoors which is the natinoal hs indoor record...fingers crossed =)
  17. @shotput5 There's a reason why this record has lasted so long. There have been many "prospects" who have been projected to break Carter's record before graduating, and all have failed.
  18. @bigred200 jacko gill turned 16 in december is 188cm tall and weighs 96kg has thrown 23.86 with a 5kg before he turned 16 last july won the world juniors 6k with 20.76 and since then has thrown in training over 21m with a 6.25k i think he is every chance to break this record if he was to throw a 12lb when he is 18 or 19? (however old mike carter was)
  19. michael carters record isnt gonna be beat any time oon by a highschooler, unless they are absolutely freakish, 81'3 is gonna stand for a while, i throw mid 50s and thats difficult and im a big guy, no way anyone beats that for at leat another 10 to 20 years and maybe not even that soon
  20. check out a freshman in high school from new zealand named jacko gill throws 68 with 6 kg (13.2 lbs) will probably beat michael carters record next year
