Mountain Lion vs 4 point buck 11/1/2015

(For licensing or usage, contact licensing@viralhog.com) Coming down the trail at Ranch San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Northern California and stumbled on 3 hikers filming the attack just 30 yards from the trail. After 10min the buck was exhausted with the mountain lion hanging on the muzzle for so long... eventually the deer collapsed into an almost lovers kiss with the cougar... both exhausted... when finally the mountain lion goes for the throat...

1. yeah they'll bite around the nose and mouth to suffocate sometimes, the deer was nearly dead from it, they're whiskers help sense heart rate and all that of their pray as they're clenched down, throat is best but they're not actually trying to severe the throat, it's move like clamping off the air and blood flow, some might even bite the nape of the neck to break it also, lucky footage
2. Jesus, this is scary and amazing. Such efficient predators. Makes it look easy. I've never even been able to tackle a deer, much less suffocate one.

8. Astonishing footage. Pretty neat to see that cougars use the muzzle clamp on prey too, like their leopard cousins will.

12. lotta folks getting pissed about dude not saving the deer. trust me, I get that your instincts might say to help the deer, but think of the following:
    that deer is already on the ground- meaning he can't do a whole lotta fighting any more- possibly due to exertion, or an injury meaning he can't escape once the lion fights you, scares you away, or helps you when you have a hungry and pissed off mountain lion after you because your shot wasn't as good as you had hoped since you're aiming at a target that is more or less, moving.
    that mountain lion might not actually be alone... I guarantee there's more than one lion out there, and if that's a female lion killing a deer, and the male lions work in the woods like they do in Africa... you'll be fucked up in a few minutes (give or take a few for how long it takes you to notice the male lion, and how much of a fight you can put up)

14. That's no youngster and that's perfect killing technique ! Most lions kill big game elk etc with a nose grip bite , the neck is just to thick and strong!
