New Volkswagen Golf R vs GTI Performance - worth the extra £3,000? | Head2Head

Volkswagen has just updated the Golf R with a few design tweaks, an increase in power to 310hp and a raft of new performance options. However, it's also upgraded the GTI Performance pack too so that now has 245hp. The price difference between the two is a little over £3,000. So is it worth upgrading to the R or is the GTI Performance all the hot hatch you could ever need? I test both cars, time their 0-60mph times, check their in gear acceleration and generally have a blast trying to find out... 1. Matt, u are one of the rare UK guys who can properly pronounce Akrapovič. Well done mate.
The correct version is the second one @4:26
Greetings from Slovenia, where it is made.
  2. Good Boy.
  3. They both just look so boring it's meant to be there top car in the range and they look like a bluemotion unlike say the type r or focus rs so damn boring golfs are
  4. Shame about the monkey that's washed them and put swirls all over the paintwork 🤣🙈
  5. Well done Matt, spot on in my opinion.
    Cheers
    Keith
  6. Stock 7R could make 0-60s in 4,7s, wheres the differene stock 7,5R makes 4,2s? 10HP could not make such difference.
  7. It's Akrapovič, the second pronaunciation was right. They make the best exhaust systems in the world and from one of the smallest countries in europe :) my pride in the automotive industry, cheers from slovenia :)
  8. AWD or nothing! The Golf R is different engine, stronger internals and much, much more. A larger turbo as well. If the Golf R is tuned to Stage 1 or Stage 2 there aren't many cars out there that can keep up with it! They need to be Super Cars in order to attempt it.
  9. Does both have the same 2.0TSI engine? if so, the only difference is simply the ECU management?
  10. I would go for the Golf R because it looks more elegant and clean with it's silver details (I don't like red details) than the Golf GTI, although I think both look fabulous. Overall, I think Golf GTD looks more subtle and refined than the Golf GTI. I prefer Golf GTD and Golf R because of their stylish look. And because I live in northern Europe, four wheel drive is a huge advantage. The performance difference is not a big thing for me.
  11. man i love the way you speak. you are as excited as we are.
  12. 0:58 wow swirl marjs
  13. Gti looks better
  14. But is the S3 worth the extra cost over the Golf R?
  15. Option c) - get a Seat Leon Cupra 300 (basically a debaged GTI with way more power). You get Golf R performance, optional Cup 2 tyers, front Dif as standard, brembo breaks and you pay less than for either of these. And if you still fancy AWD - the estate version ( "ST") has got you covered as well.
  16. 0-60 mph 4.2 seconds? With hot hatch! Crazy! :D
  17. Were you inside two different R models? Because in one it is the manual gear box and in another one, the one you drove, it is the automatic gear box.
  18. Blessings!
  19. 0:55 Those swirl marks tho
  20. New golf R 7.5, GTI 7.5 or golf R MK7??
