NFL Top 10 Draft Busts

NFL Network's Top 10 series counts down the greatest disappointments in the draft's history as of 2007. I claim no ownership nor profit from this video in any way.

Comments

  1. If the Chargers wouldn't have drafted leaf over Peyton then maybe Eli wouldn't have hated to be drafted by them. And if they wouldn't have given up on Brees then they could've had some damn rings. The Chargers are just a terribly run franchise. The second biggest joke after the Browns.
  2. they need to update this list jaMarcus Russell needs to be on this list
  3. They put Couch on the list, who really had no talent around him. I blame the Cleveland organization than I would blame Couch. If they update this in 2017, JaMarcus Russell and Johnny Manziel definitely makes this list, and perhaps even RG III..
  4. Ryan Tannehill beat that sack record of 83 times in 2 years,
  5. This is a very outdated list. We've had JaMarcus Russell and Johnny Manziel since this.
  6. 1988 First round actually had Neil Smith, Michael Irvin, Tim Brown, Keith Jackson, Randall McDaniel, Craig Heyward, and Bennie Blades--that hardly constitutes the "arguably worst first round in NFL history", Peter King
  7. Ray Didinger pointed out in an interview why there were so many Penn State busts had a lot to do with PSU brass not allowing pro scouts anywhere near the team's practices, which created a fog of war in terms of scouting a player. Are there any other college teams that did/do this? Was it common in the old days? Or was this just a Penn State thing?
  8. Ok Ill do it like this...

    1 Leaf
    2 Manziel
    3 Russell
    4 Quinn
    5 Weeden
  9. The Boz wasn't that bad...just the hype screwed him over. Just my opinion..
  10. I live in Columbus, Ohio, and its funny....Art Schlichter.....I work on equipment by his house. Nice place.
  11. I feel bad for Tim Couch.. The guy never stood a chance at being successful with the browns.
  12. This is an old list n I'm sure Lawrence Phillips rotting in hell
  13. Couch and Klingler got put in very bad situations in comparison to some of the other guys on this list (Ware in particular), so it feels bad to call them busts when it wasn't entirely their fault for their failures. Guys like Leaf and Phillips, on the other hand, deserve to fail.

Also, the Boz got kinda a bad rap. Yeah, he didn't play long, but that's because of injury. No, he wasn't the greatest player ever, but he was a decent linebacker when he was playing.
  14. I think you replace couch with Jamarcus Russell
  15. Biggest bust ever is Johnny Football. Reasoning:

-Heisman Winner unlike Leaf or Jamarcus
    -Projected 1st overall pick
-Immense hype coming out of college
    -Ultimately didn't play well

Let me also say that Couch is not a bust, as he arguably is the best QB to ever play for post-1999 Browns (Browns fans correct me if I'm wrong) and played with some awful teams. Same thing for Klingler except for he played for the Bungals era Bengals. Same thing with David Carr (oddly enough also played football in Houston), I mean c'mon he played for one of the worst O-lines EVER. What is he or Klingler or Couch supposed to do about that? So whenever I hear people say "Air Raid QBs don't work in the NFL" My response is: really? The most famous examples are all guys who were put in bad situations.

Interesting thing about the Shuler-Frerotte controversy, I remember hearing Mark Schlereth on ESPN something to the effect of "in training camp I wondered why the 7th round pick played better than the 1st round pick".

List 10 years later should be IMO:

    1.) Johnny Football
    2.) Ryan Leaf
    3.) Jamarcus Russell
    4.) Akili Smith
    5.) Jake Locker
    6.) Tony Mandarich
    7.) Brady Quinn
    8.) Lawrence Phillips
    9.) Brandon Weeden
    10.) Blaine Gabbert
  16. Couch can easily be replaced with Manziel, He played a lot more than Manziel enough said.
  17. Johnny Manziel
  18. Tim couch wasnt a bust he just had the worst team ever around him
  19. Well schlichter sure as hell didn't manage to stay out of trouble as he is in jail for 10 years now
  20. Boz really wasn't a bust. He was drafted late. But he was hyped in Oklahoma
