North Atlantic Ocean Spawns Largest Wave Ever Recorded

Scientists from the World Meteorological Organization have measured the largest wave ever recorded: a six-story behemoth in the North Atlantic Ocean. The data was taken from a buoy located between Iceland and the U.K., and a committee has classified the the 62.3-foot wave as the highest ever measured by a buoy. The previous record of 59.96 feet was measured in 2007, and also occurred in the North Atlantic at around the same time of the year. Scientists attribute the swells to strong cold fronts, which may produce winds of up to 43.8 knots or 50.4 miles an hour in the area. 1. I've got a couple of friends that are in the Danish Navy. Both are on patrol vessels that patrol around the Faroe Islands and Greenland. They've sometimes been caught in some crazy storms in the North Atlantic. Not my kind of job :-)
